Job Description
The Toolpusher manages the drilling department and coordinates the safe and efficient drilling operations of the rig under all operational and environmental conditions. He/she ensures that the operator's program is accomplished within the parameters that have been set by the operator in accordance with company policies and procedures in a safe and efficient manner.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Performs all work according to agreed expectations of both internal and external customers, focus on doing things right the first time, every time, and contribute actively to continual improvement activities.
Acts as a safety leader ensuring the ongoing identification of hazards and the implementation of controls to manage the associated risks.
Leads the drilling department in the planning of goals and objectives for QHSE
Ensures that operations are planned, organized, supervised and executed in accordance with well programs, rig move plans, company requirements and contractual obligations.
Participates in the operational daily meeting; review the last 24 hours, preview the next 24/72 hours and plan for future operations with regards to equipment, personnel and logistics requirements.
Promotes and maintains a good working relationship with Customer representative onboard.
Maintains the hygiene and housekeeping onboard to Valaris standards with a particular focus on escape routes.
Organizes and supervises the activities of the drilling department and ensure Valaris work instructions are understood and observed by all crews.
Ensures all rig/deck crews have the necessary competencies, training and skills to perform their tasks (i.e. through regular mentoring, appraisal and feedback to direct reports).
Supervises all preventive maintenance or maintenance repairs occurring on drilling equipment.
Plans and coordinates well control drills and ensure well control emergency procedures and responses are fully implemented and crew competencies/tickets are valid and current.
Creates an environment in which open communications can occur within all departments, with all senior/junior crews as well as Customer and third parties as required.
Clearly and accurately communicates on a daily basis to OIM/Master and provide detailed handover at end of shift and end of hitch.
Qualifications / Experience
Ten years rig experience including two years proven experience as Toolpusher.
Completion of all training and certification requirements for Toolpusher position as described in the Valaris training matrix.
