Job Description

The Oiler - Motorman is responsible for assisting in completion of the preventative/corrective maintenance and ongoing repairs pertaining to power plant, dynamically positioning machinery and living quarters. The position makes daily rounds to complete engine room logbook and performs watch duties.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in completing preventive and corrective maintenance, repairs of hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical components of the following:
Power Plant and related Auxiliary systems;
Dynamically Positioning Equipment and Auxiliary systems;
Ballast and Bilge systems;
HVAC systems;
Remote Operated Valve systems;
Boilers and Incinerator;
Compressed Air systems and equipment including both Service Air and Starting Air;
Emergency Shutdown systems, Safety systems and Zero Discharge equipment;
Lifeboats and Fast Rescue Craft; and
Living quarters and related support systems
Prioritizes maintenance tasks assigned on safety & environmental critical equipment/systems (SECE’s) as defined in VAMS.
For rigs with Performance Standards
Prioritizes maintenance tasks assigned with Assurance Activities required by Performance Standards.
Maintains an understanding of the relationship between the rigs safety case, identified Major Accident Hazards, the bow tie assessment, Performance Standard (PS) documents, and PS Assurance Activity tasks in VAMS.
Uses the VAMS system to be able to identify equipment identified as Barriers.
Maintains housekeeping onboard to the company standards with a special focus on emergency exits and continually maintain safe and clean engine and auxiliary equipment rooms.
Enters equipment readings in the engine room logbook as part of daily rounds.
Informs Third and Second Engineers of any technical problems or limitations that may affect safe operation of the vessel.
Ensures workshop equipment and tools are maintained as per highest safety standards.
Clearly and accurate communicates work status at end of shift.
Qualifications / Experience

High School diploma or equivalent.
A current valid USCG Oiler or Motorman w/ STCW III/4 or III/5 on the MMC.
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in this position and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications.
Completion of all mandatory training and certification requirements for Oiler as described in the training matrix.
